Supreme Court announces verdict in Saad Rafique constituency rigging case

ISLAMABAD -(DNA) – Supreme Court on Thursday announced verdict in the rigging case [from NA-125 constituency] which involved Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique .

The rigging case is related to alleged rigging in NA-125 constituency during the 2013 general election.

The two-member bench of the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry accepted Rafique’s appeal and annulled the decision by an election tribunal which had declared poll results in NA-125 null and void and ordered by-election in the constituency.

Earlier, in 2013, Saad Rafique had defeated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Hamid Khan in NA-125 during the general elections. Afterwards, PTI’s Hamid Khan had then filed an application in the election tribunal leveling allegations of rigging against Saad Rafique .

Then the tribunal had ordered by-election in NA-125 and disqualified Rafique from contesting in the constituency.

Following the tribunal’s verdict Rafique had approached the Supreme Court to appeal against the decision.
