Five policemen martyred, 16 injured in Quetta suicide blast

QUETTA, JAN 09 (DNA) – 15 security forces personnel were injured as a blast rocked Liaquat Bagh area of Balochistan’s Quetta city.
Police and rescue agencies have reached the spot and are trying to determine the nature of the blast.
Rescue agencies say that the blast occurred on Zarghoon Chowk near Liaquat Bagh near a Balochistan Constabulary truck. The bomb which targeted the Balochistan Constabulary truck left a number of security forces’ personnel injured.
The injured were moved to nearby hospitals.
A strong explosion near rocked the Balochistan capital on Tuesday, killing at least five police personnel and injuring 16 others.
The blast took place near a police truck parked close to GPO Chowk on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road, located in the city’s high-security Red Zone, around 300 metres from the provincial assembly building.
Quetta deputy commissioner Farrukh Ateeq confirmed to media that a police vehicle was targeted in the suicide attack.
The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.
Police personnel took positions around the provincial assembly building, while additional contingents were also called in following the blast.
