ISLAMABAD, MAY 20 /DNA/ – President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has said that the Standing Committees are the real arms and backbone of the Chamber as they play a pivotal role in the policy formulation and decision-making  aimed at resolving the issues faced by the business community.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the Chairmen of the ICCI Standing Committees held at the Chamber House on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by a large number of Chairmen of various Standing Committees, former office-bearers and members of the business community.

Addressing the participants, Sardar Tahir Mehmood emphasized the need for regular meetings of the Standing Committees so that the genuine problems and challenges confronting the business community could be properly identified and effectively highlighted before the relevant authorities for timely resolution.

He stated that Standing Committees serve as an effective platform for policy recommendations and constructive engagement with government institutions. He added that these committees can play a significant role in promoting ease of doing business, facilitating investment activities and supporting the overall economic prosperity of the country.

The ICCI President said that the Chamber leadership firmly believes in consultative decision-making and values the input of all Standing Committees in shaping future strategies for the development of trade, industry and commerce. He further apprised the participants about the important milestones achieved by the Chamber during the current tenure for the facilitation of the business community and also shared future plans of action aimed at strengthening the private sector and improving the business environment.

During the meeting, the Chairmen of Standing Committees presented briefings regarding the performance and activities of their respective committees and highlighted sector-specific challenges along with practical recommendations for improvement.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood appreciated the efforts and performance of the top-performing committees and encouraged other committees to further enhance their engagement and performance. He assured them that the Chamber leadership would continue to extend full support and cooperation to all committees for achieving their objectives in an efficient manner.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice President ICCI Irfan Chaudhry and former Presidents Zubair Ahmed Malik, Mohammad Ejaz Abbasi and Mian Shaukat Masood also shared their valuable insights. They stressed upon the Chairmen of Standing Committees to actively perform their responsibilities and contribute positively towards resolving the issues of the business community.

They remarked that serving on Standing Committees is a noble cause as members dedicate their valuable time and business commitments for the collective benefit of the business fraternity and the national economy. They further observed that active and vibrant Standing Committees can significantly strengthen the role of the Chamber as an effective representative institution of the business community.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively under the platform of ICCI for the promotion of business activities, industrial growth and economic stability in the country.
