Skardu airport set for major upgrade to boost tourism
ISLAMABAD, APR 29 (DNA): The new master plan for the up-gradation of Skardu International Airport marks a significant step toward transforming Gilgit-Baltistan into a key hub for tourism and trade.
According to an official from the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), the ambitious project aims to equip the airport with state-of-the-art facilities, enhancing its capacity to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and meet modern aviation demands.
The upgraded of airport at international standard will play a crucial role in promoting tourism across the region. Skardu is expected to attract a larger influx of both domestic and international tourist.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), which officially launched the project in June 2025, is investing heavily in Gilgit-Baltistan, recognizing its long-term potential in the aviation sector.
The initiative reflects a broader strategy to strengthen regional connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and position Skardu as a gateway to some of Pakistan’s most scenic destinations.
Once completed, the upgraded airport will significantly contribute to local development by supporting tourism-related businesses, improving accessibility, and opening new opportunities for trade and investment in the region.
