Maldives ambassador fetes new secretary general of SAARC
ISLAMABAD, FEB 26 (DNA) – Ambassador of Maldives Ahmed Saleem, who is also a former secretary general of SAARC hosted a dinner for the newly-appointed secretary general of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Ambassador Amjad Sial. Amjad Sial will assume charge of his office in Kathmandu on Monday.
The function was attended by all SAARC countries present in Pakistan. Amjad Sial in his brief speech said his office is in fact the executive arm of the SAARC and in his new capacity he shall try to facilitate all member countries.
Amjad Sial further said, the post of secretary general of course is a demanding job however he will try his best to discharge his duties to the best of his abilities.
He particularly thanked the host Ambassador Ahmed Saleem and said he had learnt a lot from his experience as former secretary general of the association.
Ambassador Saleem in his brief comments, wished best of luck to Ajmad Sial with his new posting and hoped under him SAARC will thrive.
Ambassador Saleem said, SAARC is the best thing that has happened in this era therefore it is up to all stakeholders to work hand in hand for further strengthening of the association.
He said it was Pakistan’s turn to have this important slot and Ajmad Sial rightly deserved for this post.=DNA
