Saudi FM meets Army Chief, discusses regional security
RAWALPINDI, 07 JAN (DNA) – Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir on Thursday arrived in Islamabad and met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.
According to details, the Saudi minister met the Army Chief at the General Headquarters (GHQ). According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), key issues including regional security was discussed.
The Saudi minister also praised Pakistan’s sacrifices in war against terrorism. He said Pakistan’s role for stability in the region is praiseworthy. Earlier, Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and other prominent officials welcomed the Saudi guest at Noor Khan airbase.
During his 2-day visit, the Saudi minister will hold an important meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discuss with the Pakistani leadership the Pak-Saudi relations and Pakistan’s possible role in Saudi Arabia-led alliance against ISIS and terrorism. A high level meeting presided over by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took place prior to al-Jubeir’s arrival in which Pak-Saudi relations were discussed.
It merits mentioning here that the Saudi foreign minister was supposed to arrive in Pakistan on Sunday but the visit had been postponed because of the growing clash between Iran and Saudi Arabia following the execution of Sheikh Al Nimr. This is the second visit by Saudi minister in past 12 months. DNA
