ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has stepped up preparations to host the South Asian Games 2027 as a delegation of the South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) conducted a detailed inspection of key sports venues in Islamabad, reviewing facilities and readiness for the region’s biggest multi-sport event.

The SAOC delegation visited the Pakistan Sports Complex, where Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Yawar Hussain, along with Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Arif Saeed and Secretary General Khalid Mehmood, briefed the delegates on venue preparations, infrastructure development, technical facilities and other arrangements for the Games.
The delegation inspected major venues including Jinnah Stadium, Amir Khan Hall, Hamidi Hall, Rodham Hall, Liaquat Gymnasium, the Shooting Range and Rawal Lake, along with other facilities earmarked for the South Asian Games.
Officials highlighted the extensive preparations being undertaken to ensure that Pakistan provides world-class facilities and a professionally organised sporting spectacle for athletes from across South Asia.
The delegation also visited the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Tennis Complex in Islamabad to assess the venue and facilities proposed for the tennis events.
PTF Secretary General Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail briefed the delegation on the complex’s infrastructure, player facilities and ongoing development initiatives. He also highlighted Pakistan’s experience in successfully hosting international, regional and national tennis events, including ATP and other international competitions.
The SAOC officials inspected the tennis courts, seating areas, player facilities and other key infrastructure at the complex.
The venue inspections came a day after the SAOC meeting in Islamabad formally endorsed Pakistan’s preparations and schedule for the 14th South Asian Games, further underlining the country’s readiness to host the regional sporting extravaganza.
Pakistan will host the South Asian Games from April 3 to 11, 2027, with competitions scheduled across Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar. Islamabad will host 15 sports, Lahore 10 and Peshawar three sports.
