Rutherford stars as Zalmi beat Gladiators in nail-biting contest
KARACHI – Sherfane Rutherford’s brilliant onslaught helped Peshawar Zalmi in pulling off an unlikely three-wicket win over Quetta Gladiators in the match eight of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the National Stadium in Karachi on Friday.
After winning the toss, Wahab Riaz asked Gladiators to bat first and his decision proved an incorrect one as the 2019 champions managed to post the highest total of the competition of 198-7 in their allotted 20 overs.
The star of the show was captain Sarfaraz Ahmed who scored a brilliant 81 off just 40 balls with the help of 12 fours and one six.
For Zalmi, pacer Saqib Mahmood was the pick of the bowlers as he registered figures of three for 34 in his four overs.
In reply, Peshawar eventually chased down the target in the final over at the expense of seven wickets.
Young Haider Ali finished the innings with the top score of 50 off 29 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes.
Rutherford played a match-winning cameo at the back end of the innings where he scored 36 not out off 18 balls with the help of one four and four sixes.
For his impressive batting performance, Haider was the player of the match.
