Romanian ambassador supports free press
Says media’s fundamental role is to give information they need to participate in the process of government decision making
ISLAMABAD, MAY 05 (DNA). The Ambassador of Romania Nicolae Goia has said he strongly believed in power of journalism adding in a democratic society free press has an important role to play.
In his message on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day the Romanian ambassador said media’s fundamental role is to give information they need to participate in the process of government decision making.
He said being the watchdog of democracy, the Press must be absolutely free from any condionalities and fear nevertheless there are instances in today’s world that journalists are not only persecuted but in some cases tortured and killed also for the only reasons that they exercised truth.
Romanian ambassador said the World Press Freedom Day emphases that free press is a fundamental human right.
“ This day is also a moment to remember with much love and respect to thsoe who paid the ultimate price for telling the truth. We stand together for press freedom today and everyday’, Ambassador Nicolae added.=DNA
