Result of the meaningful vote on the withdrawal agreement of the United Kingdom of Britain, Northern Ireland from EU

We respect the internal procedures of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and we hope the political debate in the UK will lead to a political solution supported by the majority of MPs in the House of Commons.
To this end, we await solid proposals from the British Government regarding the next steps, as well as the actions, it considers for the near future.
The process of withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU is a major priority on the agenda of the Romanian Government – especially regarding the completion of that process during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
We believe the Withdrawal Agreement provides a solid legal foundation for the UK to exit the EU while also limiting the negative consequences of Brexit, as it offers certainty to both European citizens in the United Kingdom as well as to the business environment.
Throughout the negotiation process, the EU27 have constantly showed openness to finding an acceptable solution to both sides.
As Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Romania maintains a constant dialogue with the other EU institutions and member states, so that a unified approach can be reached, according to the European Council directions and principles agreed upon at the EU27 level.
Moreover, the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will support, as a matter of priority, all necessary legal initiatives in order for the EU27 to be prepared at the time of the actual withdrawal of the UK from the EU.
