ISLAMABAD: (DNA) – On request of the National Accountability Bureau, the Ministry of Interior has issued red notice for the arrest of former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader is currently in London receiving medical treatment as the interior ministry has initiated process to bring him back through the Interpol to face trial in the assets beyond income case.

Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has written a letter to The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) for the detention of the former senator while the case has also been advanced to them after being sanctioned by the interior secretary.

Earlier this month, Attorney General for Pakistan Khalid Javed Khan had informed the Supreme Court that the interior ministry on request of the Federal Investigation Agency had issued red warrants and was waiting for a response from the Interpol.

The former Senator has also been declared an absconder in the case owing to his continuous absence in the apex court’s hearings even after repeated warnings of Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.

On May 8, the top court had suspended the notice conferring Dar as a Senator, ordering that the former minister cannot be a member of the Upper House. An appellate election tribunal of the Lahore High Court had earlier granted Dar permission to contest the Senate election, setting aside an order of the returning officer (RO) who had rejected his nomination papers. On March 3, the former finance minister won a Senate seat as a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) backed independent candidate.
