Quetta blast: 12 killed, several wounded in explosion near IGP office
QUETTA, JUN 23 (DNA) – An explosion has been reportedly heard near Inspector General of Police’s office in the Shuhada Chowk vicinity early Friday (today) morning, the police informed.
The area was immediately cordoned off by the security forces following the explosion. 6 people have died and at least 14 injured in the incident.
The 14 people injured in the incident and five bodies have been shifted to Civil Hospital. Of the injured, at least four are said to be in critical condition, including a girl around 10 years of age. As per hospital sources, one of the deceased is a policeman.
As per rescue forces, two cars have been reportedly damaged in the incident.
Following the explosion, security around the Civil Hospital area was tightened with police officers deployed at all entry and exit points of the premises. The police are also thoroughly searching people entering the hospital.
The deputy commissioner also visited the hospital to oversee the arrangements.
The bomb disposal squad has been called to the site of the incident and investigations into the incident are underway, a police spokesperson informed.
Balochistan government spokesperson Anwarul Haq Kakar while talking to local media outlet, stated that as per initia reports, the incident was the result of a suicide car bombing.
