Punjab Governor’s son tenders unconditional apology to SC in medical colleges’ fee case

LAHORE, DEC 28 (DNA) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Thursday heard the suo moto case on extravagant fees of private medical and dental colleges in Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, where son of Punjab governor Asif Rajwana issued an unconditional apology to the SC over telephoning the female layer to influence the case.
During the course of hearing, Rajwana appeared before the court and unconditionally apologised to the two-member bench for trying to influence the case by offering incentives to the female lawyer involved in the said case. Earlier yesterday, CJP had summoned Punjab governor’s son for the unacceptable conduct.
Asif Rajwana told the court that he had no intention to intimidate the lawyer over telephone; he was instead a family acquaintance of the said lawyer and contacted her for personal reasons. Chief Justice accepted this explanation and pardoned Rajwana.
Of late, CJP Saqib Nisar has been inspecting health and education standards across country. Earlier this week, he took suo moto notice of extravagant fees being charged by private medical and dental colleges and summoned 13 vice-chancellors in this regard.
The chief justice also summoned PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif to inquire about account details and fee structure of Sharif Medical College. Nawaz, however, remained absent from today’s hearings, with college’s principal making an appearance instead.
