Punjab CM inaugurates Beijing underpass in Lahore
LAHORE, DEC 03 (DNA) – Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated Beijing Underpass on Sunday that has been built in Lahore.
The underpass has been constructed on the Canal Bank Road and is city’s longest and deepest underpass. It was earlier opened for traffic but has now been closed for inauguration, and the traffic will be allowed to move through only after the formal ceremony.
The underpass was previously known as Chubacha Underpass, but has been renamed as Beijing Underpass to recognize China’s support in development projects in Punjab.
Three names for the underpass were proposed by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), and Shehbaz Sharif himself finalized the label, Beijing Underpass.
Furthermore, the picture of pagoda style traditional Chinese building has also been drawn on the underpass walls through tile work to demonstrate Chinese architectural elements.
