KARACHI, JAN 29 (DNA) – Friends of late Naqeebullah Mehsud, who were  abducted  earlier this month, have stated before a court on Monday during a hearing that their slain friend told them that police had demanded Rs 1 million worth of extortion from him.

Qasim and Ali, two friends of late Naqeeb who were released after torture by police earlier this month were presented before the court today.

The two locals told the judge that station in-charge named Akbar Malah warned them to not see suspended Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) deployed in Malir of Karachi, Rao Anwar, eye to eye lest he would ‘send you off to the heavens’.

They further said that they were brutally tortured by police in captivity without any case lodged against them. They revealed that police choked them with naswar in their mouths and nose.

Police pocketed Rs 4,000 worth of extortion money from slain Naqeeb and Rs 300 from Muhammad Qasim, the two accused.

The witnesses told the court that they were to depart for the hometowns and had to buy clothes before leaving. They had befriended late Naqeeb on Facebook and had met him that day for shopping.

The slain man offered them tea at a restaurant on Abul Hassan Isfahani Road which is where police  abducted  them and were taken to Sachal Police Station.

Inquiry committee completed its probe earlier this month into Naqeebullah’s killing in alleged police encounter in Karachi.

The 15-page report declared Naqeebullah ‘innocent’ and his encounter ‘fake’. Statements of the friends  abducted  along with Naqeeb were included in the report as well.
