PML-N, PPP leaders criticise arrest of Shehbaz Sharif

LAHORE, Sep 28 (DNA): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have strongly condemned the arrest of the
Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif in the National Assembly and termed it
as an attempt to dent APC’s decisions.

Reacting to the news of her uncle’s arrest, PML-N Vice President Maryam
Nawaz said Shehbaz was “arrested only because he refused to play in the
hands of those who wanted to use him against his brother”.

“He preferred standing behind prison bars than to stand against his
brother,” she wrote on Twitter. “You will not be able to save your false
and fake mandate even by arresting Shehbaz Sharif.

“Whatever decisions were made by the Shehbaz Sharif-led PML-N delegation
at the APC, every PML-N worker will remain steadfast on these promises.

“This revengeful accountability cannot discourage Nawaz Sharif and his
allies. The time is not far when this government and those who brought
it into power are held accountable by the nation,” she added.

PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the National
Accountability Bureau (NAB) has failed to prove corruption charges
against Shehbaz Sharif despite the passage of two years. He was arrested
on an unknown plea, she added.

Linking the arrest with the local bodies and Gilgit Baltistan polls, she
said that Shehbaz has been arrested when the local bodies and GB
elections are just around the corner. Marriyum said that PML-N will
defend the projects made by Shehbaz.

“We cannot be frightened by arrests”, the PML-N spokesperson said and
vowed to fight the situation.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly
condemned the arrest of Mian Shahbaz Sharif adding that Imran Khan
regime is frightened by Opposition alliance PDM and has resorted to
highhandedness against the Opposition leaders.

In a statement, he said that sending NAB notices and making arrests of
Opposition leaders showed that the regime is scared of the unity and
demanded immediate release of Shahbaz Sharif and an end to use of NAB as
a tool for political victimisation.

PPP Chairman said that a runaway dictator who is facing heinous and
serious charges but no notice was issued nor was he arrested. Serious
allegations are also levelled against Imran Khan’s sister and his
Special Assistants but they are never summoned, he added.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made it clear that the regime cannot impede
people’s resistance by targeting the Opposition leaders and challenged
the regime to do whatever it can but the PDM’s struggle wont stop.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested PML-N President and
Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz in a money-laundering
and assets beyond means case.

A team of the national graft buster arrested him from the Lahore High
Court (LHC) after it dismissed his plea for extension in his interim
bail in the case. He was escorted to the NAB Lahore headquarters amid
tight security. DNA
