PM Imran vows to overhaul local govt system for better public service
LAHORE, OCT 07 (DNA) – Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will remove flaws in the existing local government system to serve the people in the best possible way.
Khan said this while chairing a meeting of Punjab cabinet in Lahore on Sunday.
The prime minister is addressing the media over his government’s performance in the run up to the October 14 by-elections.
Taking the cabinet members into confidence on local government system and housing programme, the premier said the purpose of local government system is public welfare so that people at the grass root level are empowered.
He said the new system will ensure completion of developmental projects on time, adding that there will be a complete check on financial irregularities in the local government system.
The prime minister directed the provincial cabinet to do timely legislation on the issue. He was of the view that upcoming by-elections are very important for the ruling party and a full fledge election campaign was needed to be launched for success.
Referring to encroachment drive, the prime minister said the Punjab government should make all out efforts to recover government lands from encroachers and the federal government will assist the provincial administration in this regard.
Earlier in the day, the premier had arrived in Lahore for a day-long visit.
During the visit, PM Imran will hold meetings with Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Governor Chaudhry M. Sarwar, and members of provincial cabinet to discuss overall situation in the Punjab province. He also review the implementation of PTI government’s first 100-days’ plan.
During his maiden visit to Quetta on Saturday after assuming premiership on August 18, the premier vowed to give Balochistan more than its due share in the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
He said the CPEC projects are being reviewed to safeguard rights of people of all provinces. IMF only viable option, PM Imran Khan told.
PM Imran also chaired a provincial cabinet meeting in Quetta during his first visit to the province capital.
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Planning Minister Khusro Bakhtiar, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi, provincial political leadership and special assistants to PM on media and political affairs also attended the meeting.=DNA
