PM directs to devise short & long-term strategy to harness immense potential of IT in country

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the authorities concerned to finalize short, medium and long-term strategy based on timelines for development of IT sector.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Monday on promotion of IT sector in the country, he emphasized on early implementation of the strategy.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan has immense potential in IT sector. He said the government is taking steps on priority basis to organize experts in information technology, especially the freelancers.
Underlining the importance of building Special Technology Zones in the country, Imran Khan said establishment of STZs will play a pivotal role in development of IT sector.
The Prime Minister said various challenges have emerged during the pandemic; however, it has also created countless opportunities for IT-professional youth to work from home.
The Prime Minister was apprised that Pakistan currently has the potential to earn five billion dollars foreign exchange in IT sector; however, due to unavailability of facilities and lack of discipline in the sector the foreign exchange is lower than the potential.
