PM Abbasi inaugurates LNG import terminal at Port Qasim
KARACHI (DNA) – Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi along with his cabinet members and Governor Sindh on Monday visited Port Qasim and inaugurated Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal.
Addressing the ceremony, PM Abbasi said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government completed all the projects it started and assured to continue steps for the elimination of energy challenges.
He further lauded efforts of Iqbal Z. Ahmed for the completion of the terminal and said that industry and consumers were getting badly affected due to outages. Construction of LNG terminals will boost economy and industry in the country and more terminals will be set up in future, he added.
The premier further said that government’s duty is to provide regulatory framework instead of doing business. He said that the country is on the path of development and the industry is growing with 5.3 percent GDP which is expected to rise to 6 percent in the next financial year.
He said that three gas based power plants will soon be initiated in the country. He said the demand for LNG is increasing and setting up of the second terminal without government guarantee is manifestation of confidence of the market.
The LNG terminal, a project of Pakistan Gas Company Limited, has been completed in a short period and will facilitate in transporting LNG to the industries.
PM Abbasi reached Karachi on a two-day visit on Sunday. He will also lay foundation stone of another part of power project at the Port Qasim today.
