PBF proposes agriculture measures to CM Punjab to revive agro economy
Lahore, MAY 15 /DNA/ – Pakistan Businesses Forum (PBF) said Pakistan’s agriculture sector plays a central role in the economy absorbing 42.3 percent of the labour force and to revive agro economy we need to provide tangible solutions.
Briefing to media, The PBF Vice President, Ahmad Jawad said by eliminating hunger and malnutrition through agriculture growth and diversification we could act as a catalyst towards attaining food security. We will also be able to build a vibrant farmer community through mobilization of maximum capacity of the Agriculture Department and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
Jawad further said despite agriculture devolves to provinces but still major areas of intervention of the agriculture sector is under federal government who could provide immediate relief to the farmers of punjab; but some measures could be implemented under the ambient of the new punjab government on the account of relief to the farming community of the punjab which may also be allocated in the coming provincial budget.
In this regard the PBF proposes following measures before Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shehbaz Sharif.
1. Previous Green tractors scheme of the former Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif may revived through Bank of Punjab (BOP); but it may linked with the crop area. 2. Subsidy on agriculture credit to the farmers of punjab may be given through BOP (in which Punjab govt may absorb the certain share of the KIBOR) 3. Introduce One window facility at Tehsil level with the combination of (revenue department+Nadra+Agri department) to facilitate farmers on every issue regarding crops, land record and others). No extra cost is to be inserted in this facility. 4. Allocate the duties of provincial inspectors to inspect pesticides factories to check the quality which is not executed right now (as inspection were allowed on federal govt pesticides act under section 28(a)
5. Former Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif started the fertiliser subsidy scheme in 2018 and later Buzdar government adopted the same scheme and place the subsidy through kissan card. Rite now only 20 bags were sanctioned to each farmer for DAP/Potash. Now it may revise it and will take upto 40 bags per year to each registered farmer with the revised subsidy of Rs 2000/-on each bag in the view of higher prices of fertilisers. 6. Inspection of seed by the agriculture department officials on every new variety at Tehsil level to adopt the concept of ‘seeing is believing’ before allowing to place on dealer shops.
7. Revival of Khadem-e-Punjab Dehi roads program on Tehsil level. 8. Immediately curb illegal hoarding of fertilisers with strict penalty fines through legal enforcement on Tehsil level. 9. Development of modern Mandi’s with packaging, sorting and storage facilities under PPP mode under PAMRA.
