Lahore: Amid Pakistan’s economic challenges, the PBF urges the government and opposition leader to agree on an experienced economist for the role of caretaker Prime Minister.
PBF Committee sees economist essential for interim economic challenges. Top contenders: Dr. Hafiz Pasha, Shahid Abbasi, Ashfaque Khan, Shabbar Zaidi.
Jawad, PBF Central VP, aims for economist caretaker PM to oversee $3B IMF relief, averting economic default.
“The IMF agreement is an economic prescription needing policy continuity and actions in the interim to maintain the loan program,” Jawad stated. He highlighted the practicality of selecting a caretaker PM candidate with prior economic policy experience.
“Fiscal discipline is vital in the interim setup as the IMF plans to release a loan tranche after the economic review by the caretaker government,” he emphasized.
“The caretaker prime minister should be a consensus candidate for free and fair polls which is badly needed for the economic revival in the country”.
PBF’s Balochistan Vice Chairperson, Zubaida Jalal, supported appointing an economically knowledgeable caretaker PM, emphasizing the need for an “independent and neutral” candidate.
“If an economist is appointed as the interim prime minister, he or she can ensure to implement IMF conditions like currency exchange rate, monetary policy tightening and energy prices,” she added
PBF’s Punjab Chairman, Muhammad Naseer Malik, stated that if an “independent and neutral” economist is chosen with stakeholder consensus, they would receive support for necessary economic decisions and reforms during their interim tenure.
