Panama JIT head records statement before Rawalpindi NAB

RAWALPINDI, AUG 29 (DNA) – Wajid Zia, head of the joint investigation team (JIT) that probed Panama Papers case against Sharif family, has recorded his statement before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
According to sources, statements of Sharif family members have been made part of the references after their verification by Wajid Zia. He will now appear before Lahore NAB as a witness on Wednesday.
Earlier, Supreme Court’s Justice Ijazul Ahsan, who is overseeing the NAB’s reference proceedings against the Sharif family, has allowed the investigators to record statements of the JIT members who probed the Panama Papers case.
NAB had given deadline to its Lahore and Rawalpindi bureaus to submit the report of their probe into the Sharif family’s offshore assets before Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
On July 28, the Supreme Court had directed NAB to prepare and present references against Sharif family within six months after it disqualified Nawaz Sharif in Panama case verdict on the basis of his non-withdrawn salary, considering it part of his assets.
