Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi lead joint rebuke of Israeli attacks
ISLAMABAD, AUG 21 /DNA/ – A coalition of twelve countries, including Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Palestine, has issued a joint statement strongly condemning Israeli airstrikes targeting the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northwestern Syria. The foreign ministers described the attacks as an “extreme escalation” and a “flagrant violation” of Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political unity.
The statement, released today from Islamabad, was signed by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia. The signatories expressed deep concern over what they called the continuous targeting and degradation of Syrian territory and infrastructure, warning that such actions risk undermining Syria’s efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions, and address the humanitarian fallout from years of conflict.
The ministers further emphasized that Israel’s continued violations of Syrian sovereignty threaten to escalate regional tensions, destabilize peace, and erode respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. They called on the international community to adopt a firm and principled stance against the aggression and to take concrete steps, in line with international law, to end the violations.
Specifically, the group urged full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Syrian areas. They stressed the imperative of preserving Syria’s independence and unity, and rejected any attempts to undermine them.
The joint statement underscores growing regional concern over Israeli military actions in Syria and reflects a unified call for diplomatic and legal measures to prevent further escalation.
