NAB chairman takes notice of irregularities in Gwadar land allotment
ISLAMABAD, DEC 30 (DNA) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has taken notice of irregularities in land allotment of industrial and commercial plots in Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA), according to an official notification issued on Saturday.
The irregularities inflicted losses worth millions of rupees to the national exchequer, NAB said in the statement, adding, the GIEDA has put the development of Balochistan on stake after turning into an estate agency.
The authority allotted the lands to relatives, friends, and other preferred buyers while disregarding the genuine investors, the notification reads.
Previously in August, NAB Balochistan chapter had launched an inquiry into an alleged multi-billion scam featuring illegal land allotment in Gwadar after receiving reports pertaining to allotment of 3,167 acres state land worth Rs70 billion in the port city.
It was learnt that the certain individuals conspired with the influential people and revenue authorities to transfer around 12,000 acres of land in their names. Later, the provincial government annulled the allotment of plots.
