Model Town report made public, doesn’t blame any Punjab govt official: Rana Sanaullah
LAHORE, DEC 05 (DNA) – Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday said that that the government has decided to make Model Town incident inquiry report public as it does not implicate any government official.
Addressing a press conference, the Law Minister said that the Lahore High Court has given issued the verdict and has given thirty days to make the report public and has issued three directives.
However, he maintained that the report doesn’t blame or holds any official of the Punjab government, and that the only accusation against him was that he chaired a session during the incident.
“There is not a single word in the report which implies that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is responsible for the incident,” he said adding that propaganda is being done against the the provincial government in the name of report since last three years.
“Punjab govt believes in merit and rule of law,” he said. He added that the Punjab government will check if any changes have been made when report is received.
He said that Model Town inquiry report is incomplete and rather defective as it was based on unsubstantial evidences from sourced reports by a one-man tribunal, and the report was not presented as a testimony of the incident.
Instead, the Law Minister blamed the activists of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) for the incident saying that the report states that the police faced tough resistance outside their the headquarters of Minaj-ul-Quran, and the activists were brought by Tahir ul Qadri.
“Qadri should tell who stopped the police from doing a lawful act, and gathered the activists,” he said adding that no directives were given to the police by the provincial government.
He admitted that directives were issued to remove illegal road blocks, which is a normal procedure. However, he said that no directives were issued to overrun the activists and that the Punjab chief secretary, intelligence officers and sixteen other officials were also present in the meeting.
