JUI-F delegation meets IGP over Maulana Sheikh Idris’ killing
PESHAWAR, May 5: A delegation led by Senator Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman on Tuesday called on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, and discussed the martyrdom of Maulana Sheikh Idris and progress on the arrest of those involved.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Additional IGP CTD, the delegation expressed concern over the tragic incident and demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
The IGP expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Maulana Sheikh Idris and extended condolences to the delegation.
He informed them that police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) teams reached the scene within minutes of the incident and collected key evidence, including spent bullet casings and CCTV footage, to initiate a comprehensive investigation.
He assured that special teams have been constituted and efforts are underway to bring the culprits to justice at the earliest. The IGP reaffirmed that protection of religious scholars remains a top priority and no effort would be spared in this regard.
He also noted that police personnel assigned to the security of the Maulana were among those targeted in the incident.
