Irfan Elahi decides to quit as PIA chairman: sources
KARACHI, MAR 17 (DNA) – Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Chairman Irfan Elahi has decided to resign from his post after serving at the post for around one and half years.
According to the sources, Elahi has expressed disappointment over the working conditions at the national airline and tendered his resignation during a meeting of board of directors lately.
On the other hand, the PIA spokesperson has denied these claims and maintained that Elahi has neither tendered any resignation nor considering quitting as the chairman of national airline.
Mr. Elahi was given additional charge of the PIA Chairperson in December 2016 after Azam Saigol had resigned from the top post following the crash of PIA flight carrying 48 passengers while it was en route to Islamabad from Islamabad.
Previously, Elahi had served as Federal Secretary Aviation Division.
The former PM’s decision to appoint him as the chairman of PIA came a week after Saigol stepped down from his post.
Although Mr Saigol cited “personal reasons” for his resignation, but sources believed he was under pressure to tender resignation after a PIA ATR-42 aircraft crashed into the hillside near Havelian area of district Abbottabad, killing all 43 passengers and five crew members on board.
