iPhone dropped in frozen lake a year ago now found– and it still works!
PENNSYLVIA, NOV 24, (DNA) -A man, who dropped his iPhone into a frozen lake and thought he actually lost it, has found it a year later.
More to his surprise, Michael Guntrum found the cellphone working after it remained beneath frozen lake for around a year.
Guntrum, of Knox in Pennsylvia lost his device in March 2015 while ice fishing in -25 degree temperatures.
He told Buzzfeed that during fishing, when he got a bite on his rod the iPhone slipped off his lap and skidded straight into the hole they were fishing in.
In September the lake was drained due to structural issues in its dam.
After the water was drained away, mechanical engineer Daniel Kalgren, also of Pennsylvania, was exploring the lake bed with his metal detector.
Sure enough, Kalgren found Guntrum’s iPhone under six inches of mud, still in its OtterBox phone case. He took it home, cleaned it up and stuck it in some rice, then when it was dried out he put it on charge. And it worked!
