International Women’s Day is being observed today
LAHORE, MAR 08, (DNA) –International Women s Day is being observed across the world, including Pakistan today (Wednesday). It has been observed since the early and is now recognized each year on March 8.
In Pakistan working women in formal and informal sectors celebrate International Women s Day every year to commemorate their ongoing struggle for due rights, despite facing many restrictions.
International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements – from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality.
International Women s Day, originally called International Working Women s Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. It commemorates the struggle for women s rights.
The first International Women’s Day was observed on February 28, 1909 in the United States following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America.
International Women s Day was first observed worldwide as a popular event after 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women s rights and world peace.
