Interior ministry decides to revamp ECL
ISLAMABAD, OCT 21 (DNA) – The Ministry of Interior has drafted a series of recommendations in its bid to revamp the Exit Control List (ECL) that will be presented to the standing committee for approval on Monday.
The minstry has recommended to abolish the role of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and sought to replace the words ‘competent authority’ with interior secretary.
The authority to place names on the list should reside with the interior secretary instead of cabinet or judiciary and persons under investigation or scrutiny should not be put on ECL, it recommended.
The ministry has also suggested to strike off the names that have been put on the list without the orders of a trial court or the Supreme Court. Persons concerned should be informed seven days prior to placement of their names on the list, it added.=DNA
