Indian spy dies of cardiac arrest in Lahore
LAHORE: An Indian spy, Kirpal Singh, who was on death row, died in Jinnah Hospital on Monday.
He had crossed over to Pakistan on Feb 29, 1992, and was arrested on charges of involvement in a bomb explosion and spying. He was sentenced to death. The Lahore High Court (LHC) had acquitted him of the bomb charges but didn’t commute the death sentence.
Kot Lakhpat checkpost’s official in charge, Sub Inspector Muhammad Nafees said the man, aged around 50, reported severe chest pain early in the morning and was admitted to the hospital shortly afterwards.
He said that the doctors’ initially diagnosed that Kirpal had had a cardiac arrest and shifted him to the Intensive Care Unit because of his critical condition. He died after a few hours.
Police took the body to a morgue for post-mortem examination.
