India says it is assessing post-counselor access scenario
NEW DELHI, SPET 2 (DNA) -In response to queries from the media on consular access to Shri Jadhav, the Official Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said: “The Charge d’ Affaires, High Commission of India in Islamabad, met Shri Kulbhushan Jadhav on Monday.
This meeting was held in the light of unanimous judgement of the International Court of Justice delivered on 17 July 2019 and ordered Pakistan to provide Indian consular officers access to Shri Jadhav.
We will decide a further course of action after receiving a detailed report from our Cd’A and determining the extent of conformity to the ICJ directives.
Today’s consular access is a part of the binding obligations of Pakistan, as ordered by the ICJ, to ensure effective review and reconsideration of the conviction and sentence awarded to Shri Jadhav.
External Affairs Minister has spoken to the mother of Shri Jadhav and briefed her of today’s developments.
The Government remains committed to continue to work towards ensuring that Shri Jadhav receives justice at the earliest and returns safely to India.”
