IG Sindh orders action against cleric for torturing seminary student
KARACHI: Inspector General Sindh Allah Dino Khawaja on Thursday took notice of the case pertaining to the alleged torture on a seminary student by a cleric and ordered speedy delivery of justice to the victim.
According to a statement released by Sindh police, the IG Sindh ordered Senior Superintendent Police East to submit a report regarding the incident pertaining to alleged torture on the child — a student of Madressah Usmania in Ali Akbar Goth area of Karachi.
He ordered the SSP East to immediately reach the spot and record statements of eyewitnesses, victim and his family members and take strict legal action against the cleric involved in the crime.
IG Sindh further said that the police shall remain in touch with the hospital administration where the child is admitted for recovery and ensure that the victim is taken proper care of.
Last year, 10-year-old seminary student was shifted to a rural health center after alleged torture by his teacher in Noorpur village in Pakpattan, Punjab.
A health center dispenser had said that the boy had severe stick torture marks on his back.
Back in 2008, a seven-year-old blind studentdied after being subjected to corporal punishment allegedly by a seminary teacher. The victim’s confirmed that he was tortured severely which led to his instant death.
