ICE Chief of Naval Staff secures victory in Turkish Airlines golf cup

ISLAMABAD, APR 26 (DNA) – Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Khan Hasham bin Saddique was victorious as the latest stage of the 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup, golf’s largest and most exciting amateur tournament, took place at Margalla Greens Golf Club Islamabad.
The 18th of 100 qualifiers for the global event, which has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2013, featured 73 players, all personally-invited guests of Turkish Airlines.
The Vice Admiral booked his place in the Grand Finals of the tournament, but it wasn’t all plain sailing, as a card playoff was required to split himself and second placed Aijaz Mustafa Siddiqui, who both posted an impressive 5-under par 41 points. Lt. Cdr. Shafqat Viqar also won a card playoff to beat Cdr. (retd.) Rizwan Rasheed into third place – but the latter’s 5-over par gross score was good enough to claim the best gross prize. Noor-us-Sabah won the ladies nearest the pin competition and Yasir Kokhnor came within one foot of a hole in one to win the respective men’s competition.
“We would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup qualifier in Islamabad,” said Yunus Mert, General Manager for Turkish Airlines Islamabad. “It was our first time hosting a golf event and we hope the players had a day to remember. Congratulations to The Vice Admiral, who we are already excited about welcoming to the Grand Finals in October.”
The first qualifiers took place in Dar Es Salaam, Mumbai and Doha in February and the 2016 series takes place across the globe, in destinations including Hong Kong, Great Britain, South Korea, Japan, China, Spain, the United States, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Argentina, Brazil and Turkey.
The Grand Final will take place in Belek, Antalya, Turkey in October of this year. The overall winners of the Grand Final will progress to play in the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open pro-am, while all finalists are to enjoy an eight-night stay in an all-inclusive hotel. The event is backed by Global Sponsor the Financial Times, with Conte of Florence the Official Clothing and Fashion Partner.
Turkish Airlines, which was recently voted Best Airline in Europe for the fifth consecutive year, as well as World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge and World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining in 2015, launched the World Golf Cup in 2013. It featured 12 qualifying events and was won by China’s Han Liang.
His prize for victory was partnering world number one and 14-time major champion Tiger Woods in the Turkish Airlines Open pro-am. The 2015 Grand Final Champion, Johannesburg’s Neill Bam went on to partner Rory McIlroy, a truly once in a lifetime opportunity.=DNA
