Heavy rains turn roads, streets into ponds in Karachi
KARACHI, SEP 03 (DNA) – Heavy rains turned many roads and streets of Karachi into ponds on Friday. Light and heavy rains were recorded in different parts of the city including North Nazimabad, Liaqatabad, Orangi Town, and Azizabad.
The heavy rains affected the flow of traffic in different areas of the metropolis as well. Many roads including Tower, MA Jinnah Road, II Chandragar Road, Hyderi Market, Napa Chowrangi, Water Pump, Shahra-e-Faisal, Surjani Town, Sohrab Goth, Nagan Chowrangi, Hijrat Colony have been submerged in the rainwater.
Due to heavy rains in the Nagan Chowrangi area, the canal overflowed. The citizens are facing severe difficulties as their vehicles got stuck in the water. Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab visited different areas of the city to inspect the relief work.
A rain emergency has also been declared in wake of rain forecast by the city administration while staff holidays have also been canceled.
PDMA Sindh has directed the departments to remain alert, according to the letter. More rain with strong winds is expected in the next 24 hours. So far, the highest rainfall of 18 mm has been recorded in Surjani Town. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature is likely to drop from tomorrow. = DNA
