The head of the Baku office of European Council: “Media plays a key role in holding free and democratic elections”
“Media plays a key role in holding free and democratic elections,” Report quotes the head of the Baku office of European Council Zoltan Hernyes, as saying during an event on “Covering of elections in the press.”
According to him, the Council of Europe made recommendations to the Member States on election coverage: “These recommendations are mainly about the role of the media. We need to create opportunities for the media. In other words, both public and private media should be involved in the election process. The media should actively take part in this process, both before and after elections. Moreover, we thank the Azerbaijani side, including the Presidential Administration, the Central Election Commission, the Press Council, and other bodies for the cooperation during the elections.”
Hernyes says gender equality is one of the most urgent issues during the election process. “Gender equality has always been a topic of discussion. Ensuring gender equality is of great importance.”
