Govt, Opposition unable to break deadlock over TORs

ISLAMABAD, 14 JUNE, (DNA) – Government and Opposition members of the parliamentary committee formed to cater the Terms of References (TORs) of the Panama Leaks issue were unable to break the deadlock over the matter during another meeting of both sides.

Both sides were unable to set a time for the next meeting of the committee. Sources indicate that the government members asked the Opposition side to set the time for the committee’s next meeting to which Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi replied that time for the next meeting shall be set after seeking consultation with other parties of the Opposition.

While conversing with the media at the end of the meeting, Opposition leaders stated that ‘zero progress’ was made in the meeting.

According to an official statement, the Committee generally discussed the Bill titled “The Commissions of Inquiry Act, 2016”drafted by the Government side (dated 10-06-2016)read with its ToRsand ANNEXURE-A to the TERMS OF REFERENCE circulated by the Opposition Team on June 7, 2016 describing the Opposition’s proposals for a specific law.

Senators Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Mr. Muhammad Ali Saifand Mr. Ilyas Ahmad Bilour; and Members of the National Assembly Mr. Zahid Hamid, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Mr. Akram Khan Durrrani, Ms. Anusha Rehman Khan Advocate, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi, Sahibzada Tariq Ullah and Ch. Tariq Bashir Cheema attended the meeting as members of the Committee. The meeting was held on Tuesday, the 14th June, 2016 in the Parliament House, Islamabad.

The next meeting of the Committee will be held with mutual consultation of the members of the Committee. =DNA
