FM Qureshi meets Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul

KABUL (DNA) – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday held a one-on-one meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace in Kabul.

Both the leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as the issues pertaining to regional peace and security during the 30-minute long meeting. Delegation level talks were also held between both the countries

Qureshi accompanied by foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua and officials of foreign ministry arrived in Kabulon Saturday on a day-long visit and were warmly received by officials from Afghan foreign ministry.

Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal says that the foreign minister’s first visit to Kabul underlines the importance government attaches to work closely with Afghanistan for regional peace and stability.

Successful outcome of the visit will lead future efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation under bilateral frameworks of cooperation including APAPPS, APTTCA, JEC etc, he added.

Qureshi is visiting Afghanistan at the invitation of his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani. This is his first foreign visit after assuming the charge of Pakistan’s foreign minister.

Two-way trade matters along with the Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS), the issue of closure of the Pakistan Consulate General in Jalalabad due to a security crisis, terrorism, and border management will be discussed among other bilateral and security matters.
