ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday directed the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to expedite the procurement of the remaining 185,000 MT wheat for Sindh.

He issued these directives while chairing the 7th meeting of the Steering Committee on Wheat Imports for Food Year 2026-27. The meeting reviewed the progress on import arrangements and discussed measures to ensure the timely completion of the procurement process.

Committee Directs Provinces to Finalize Payments and Agreements

During the session, the DPM directed the governments of Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to promptly arrange the requisite payments and complete the tripartite agreements with TCP. He stressed the need for the timely execution of the import process to ensure adequate availability of wheat in the country.

Dar noted that the imports would help ensure adequate wheat supplies at reasonable rates and provide maximum relief to the people. The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security and Research, the Sindh Minister for Food, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the Secretary Commerce, the Managing Director of PASSCO, relevant provincial secretaries, and senior officials from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and TCP.

Focus on Food Security and Relief

The government’s focus remains on stabilizing the food market. The procurement of 185,000 MT wheat for Sindh is a critical step in maintaining strategic reserves. Officials reiterated that the import process is being monitored closely to avoid any delays.
