Electricity price expected to decline by Rs 2.13/unit
LAHORE, JUL 20 (DNA) The good news for the public is that the price of the fuel employed to generate electricity continues to fall, owing to the cheaper rates of crude oil in international market. More good news is that, due to this international downward price trend, it is expected that local electricity prices might well be slashed by Rs 2.13 per unit.
This price cut, however, will not be offered to the consumers of K-electric. Nepra will hold public hearing of the petition filed by Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) seeking to trim electricity prices by the said amount on July 25.
The decision to reduce electricity charges will also not be implemented on agricultural consumers as well as on those consuming less than 300 units of electricity, as both categories are already being subsidized.
Central Power Purchasing Agency has propounded in its petition that electricity consumers were charged Rs 6.83 per unit in the month of June notwithstanding the fact that it should have been Rs 4.70 per unit. Thus, it is imperative now to compensate the consumers with a price reduction per unit of Rs 2.13.
