ECP to announce Maryam Nawaz’s party designation case verdict on Aug 27
ISLAMABAD (DNA) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reserved its verdict on Maryam Nawaz’s party designation case, and will announce it on August 27.
The hearing was conducted at the ECP and Maryam Nawaz’s lawyer Barrister Zafarullah took the stance that the Supreme Court’s verdict does not apply on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president.
He argued that a person can hold a post in his or her party even being in jail as incarcerated former premier Nawaz Sharif is running party affairs. The counsel further told that the individual nominated by Nawaz Sharif has been finalized as the candidate for Senate chairman.
The basic rights of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz cannot be violated, said Barrister Zafarullah.
Let it be known that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had on June 9 challenged Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as party vice president in the Election Commission of Pakistan.
PTI had adopted the stance that Maryam Nawaz is ineligible to hold any political or public office as she had been sentenced by the court in corruption reference.
