Punjab elects mayor, deputy mayor, councils’ heads today

LAHORE, DEC 22, (DNA) – Polling is underway for election of chairmen, vice chairmen, mayors and deputy mayors in Punjab in the final phase of local government elections.
The province will elect chairmen of 35 district councils, besides 67 vice-chairmen. Two of these have been elected unopposed, and 83 candidates are in the run. Similarly, 11 positions of mayor and 23 of deputy mayor will have the polling.
Rangers’ personnel have been deployed on all sensitive polling stations.
Election Commission of Pakistan says the election will also not be held at Kotli Sattian due to incomplete electoral college and in Kallar Syedan and Khanpur due to withdrawal of candidates.
In Punjab, out of 224 seats, 64 candidates have been elected unopposed.
The polling will continue till 2pm today.=DNA
