Court grants bail to KU professor Dr Riaz in illegal weapons case
APR, APR 06, (DNA) – Karachi University professor Dr Riaz Ahmed was granted bail by a session court on Thursday in case that was associated with possession of illegal weapons.
As per details, the court after hearing arguments in the case decided to approve the bail request by Dr Riaz and ordered him to submit a surety bond of Rs 50,000.
It is pertinent to mention that Dr Riaz Ahmed is an associate professor at the Applied Chemistry department of KU and was taken into custody by Rangers on April 1.
There were charges of carrying undocumented arms against him when he was on his way to the Karachi Press Club in order to hold a press conference for the release of MQM-London leader Dr Hasan Zafar Arif.
In addition, the accusation against Dr Riaz of being involved in the blasphemy of sacred personalities was categorically denied by Dr Riaz’s lawyer.
The counsel of Dr Riaz Ahmed revealed to the court on Wednesday that there was no independent witness and that all witnesses in the case were Rangers’ personnel.
Besides Riaz Ahmed, Dr Meher Afroze Murad was also taken into custody by the Rangers officials outside Karachi Press Club. =DNA
