COAS ratifies death sentence of 5 terrorists
RAWALPINDI, 12 MAY (DNA) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Thursday ratified death sentence of five terrorists convicted of acts of terrorism such as murder of rights activist Sabeen Mahmud and Safoora Chowrangi carnage.
According to Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), Army Chief has ratified the death sentence of five terrorists. The terrorists were involved in Safoora bus attack, Sabeen Mahmood’s murder, facilitators and planners of Saleh Mosque attack and also those involved in attacks on law enforcement agencies.
These convicts were tried by Military Courts. Details of Case as under Tahir Hussain Minhas s/o Khadim Hussain Minhas( Convict no1), Saad Aziz s/o Abdul Aziz Sheikh ( Convict no2), Asad ur Rehman s/o Atique ur Rehman ( Convict no3), Hafiz Nasir s/o Afzal Ahmed ( Convict no4) and Muhammad Azhar Ishrat S/O Ishrat Rasheed Ahmed Convict 5)
These five convicts were active member of Al-Qaeda. They were involved in attacking a bus of Ismaili community at Safora Chowrangi Karachi which resulted in death and injuries to the passengers. They were also involved in attack on Saleh Masjid Karachi, killing of a social worker Miss Sabeen and attacking Law Enforcement Agencies.
The convicts admitted their offences before the trial court. Convict no 1 was tried on 9 charges, convict no 2 was tried on 10 charges, convict no3 was tried on 4 charges and convict no4 and 5 were tried on 5 charges and all were awarded death sentences. DNA
