COAS Bajwa discusses border security on Iran visit

TEHRAN, NOV 06 (DNA) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa completed his official visit to Iran on Monday where he met the military and civilian leadership of the neighbouring country, and discussed border security.
After meeting Iranian Chief of General Staff (CGS) Major General Muhammad Bagheri at General Staff HQ, he was presented guard of honour and he laid floral wreath at Martyrs Monument. Both the delegations talked about the mutual security-related issues.
Later on, he met Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the Presidential Palace. Both leaders of the country discussed geo-strategic environment, defence & security and economic cooperation at bilateral as well as regional level.
COAS discussed the Afghan situation, growing threat of ISIS in the region and Pak-Iran border security. He termed Pak-Iran border as border of peace and friendship, emphasizing that the better security management of the border is the only way to counter exploitation by the terrorists as it is their common enemy. He said that both sides Pakistan and Iran have agreed to further the proposals for its formalization.
Talking about the bilateral relations between the two countries, Army Chief said that Iran and Pakistan are two brotherly neighbours who have a shared history, culture and religion. Both armies have a history of copperating in defence which has great mutually benefiting potential for its enhancement, he added.
ISPR told that leaders of both sides agreed to stay engaged for enhanced bilateral cooperation while jointly working to assist in bringing positive developments in other issues concerning the region.
