Chaman border will remain close till change in Afghanistan’s attitude: Lt Gen Aamir Riaz

CHAMAN, MAY 07, (DNA) – Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Aamir Riaz visited Chaman on Sunday to review the post attack situation in the area.

Talking to media, he said Afghan forces committed a shameful act by targeting innocent civilians through mortar shells attack. Lieutenant General Aamir said that such attacks would not benefit Afghanistan in any way and the Afghan government should be ashamed of such type of imprudent acts.

He added that Pakistani artillery also retaliated to the Afghan forces’ attack with full might and they resorted to destroy from four to five check posts of Afghanistan.

Lieutenant General Aamir Riaz asserted that such types of un-provocative attacks are in no way acceptable to them.

He pronounced that the Afghan government has adopted a negative approach towards Pakistan and it targeted our territory challenging our sovereignty. He, however, said that they would no more let Afghanistan repeat such practice.

Replying to a query, Commander Southern Command said that the Bab-e-Dosti on Pak-Afghan border would remain close till normalcy of the situation.

He told media that Pakistan government is trying its level best to mend the situation.

Earlier, General Aamir visited Civil Hospital Chaman and inquired after the health of the people injured in the Friday’s tragic incident. Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan, Major General Nadeem Anjum and other high-ranking civil and military officials accompanied him during the visit.

At least ten people including three children and two women were killed by Afghan forces’ unprovoked firing near a major border crossing where Pakistani census officials were carrying out a count. Also, 46 others were injured in the firing and shelling, including FC officers who were deployed for security of census officials. Afghan authorities were informed prior to the population census.=DNA
