ISLAMABAD, DEC 15 (DNA) – Displeased at the Supreme Court for not disqualifying Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, Minister for State Marriyum Aurangzeb said the verdict underlines the dual standards adopted by the court.

Addressing media outside the apex court after the verdict was announced on Friday, the state minister criticised the dual standards adopted in the disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

“There cannot be dual system of justice,” she said adding that the verdict was a bad precedent and it’s impact will continue to affect for many years to come.

“This negates the verdict given by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case.”

She said that an elected prime minister was disqualified over possessing an iqama and not withdrawing salary from his son’s firm, while on the other hand an undeclared offshore company by Imran Khan was considered insignificant.

Furthermore, she said that investigation in the party’s funding is still to be held, and the case has been reffered to the Election Commission of Pakistan and another verfict is yet to come.

She also took a jibe at PTI Secreatary General Jehangir Khan Tareen who was disqualified for life calling him the “real dacoit” and that he was found for the same thing he accused others of.

The Supreme Court had dismissed a petition filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi calling for the disqualification of Imran Khan for owning an offshore firm.
