Cabinet okays collection of Rs76b addl surcharge from power consumers

ISLAMABAD, FEB 13 (DNA) — The federal cabinet has approved a summary to collect additional surcharge worth Rs76 billion from already inflation-hit electricity consumers. The additional surcharge will be collected during next four months from the power consumers. This amount will also be collected from power consumers of K-electric.
The additional amount will be received under the head interest on loan for power holding company. The Cabinet Division, through a circulation summary, took approval of the Federal Cabinet.
The amount will be realized from power consumers as additional surcharge through bills of March to June 2023. Power consumers will have to pay additional surcharge of Rs3.39 per unit. The additional surcharge being received from power consumers will now reach Rs3.82 per unit.
The federal cabinet has also approved additional surcharge of Re1 per unit which will be applicable from next financial year 2023-24. This surcharge will not be applicable to those consuming less than 300 units. K-electric consumers will also pay this additional surcharge. — DNA
