Babar Azam – The gleaming star in cricketing world

Babar Azam – The gleaming star

The young and talented batsman Babar Azam was born on 15 October 1994 in Lahore, Pakistan.

A dream of becoming a cricketer started from the streets of his city where he used to play tape-ball cricket. With his discipline and level-headed attitude, Babar made his way up through age-group cricket.

He played under-15 world championship in 2008 and two under-19 World Cups in 2010 and 2012.

Babar’s impressive showing in 2012 World Cup grabbed coaches attention and he finally made his ODI debut in 2015 against Zimbabwe in the home series.

His consecutive three ODI hundreds against West Indies led to a Test debut where Azam had the opportunity to share the dressing room with Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.

The fairytale of becoming a cricket star had continuity when he registered a fine 90 (not out) at Hamilton followed by two fifties.

At the age of 24, Azam is already the owner of multiple records under his name. In 2017, he became the second quickest batsman after South Africa’s Quinton De Kock to score five ODI tons.

Recently, the right-handed batsman surpassed his idol Virat Kohli’s record of fastest 1,000 T20I runs in just 26 innings while playing against New Zealand.

Azam is currently ruling the charts in ICC T20I ranking for batsmen, he has captured the first position for the third time in his career.

So far in his international career, the talented young batsman has scored 2267 runs in 54 ODIs, 1031 runs in 26 T20I and 1014 in 18 Test matches.

Karachi Kings have retained Babar in platinum category for the upcoming fourth edition of Pakistan Super League. He scored 402 runs in the last season of PSL which is the third highest in the league.
