Australian streets named after Pakistani cricketing legends
A housing estate in the Australian city of Melbourne has streets named after Pakistan cricketing legends Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Shoaib Akhtar, SBS Hindi has reported.
The streets are named Miandad Sreet, Akram Way, Khan Street, Inzamam Street and Akhtar Avenue.
“Inquiries doubled as soon as we announced street named after cricketers,” property dealer Varun Sharma said while speaking with SBS Hindi.
The estate also has streets named after other cricketers including Virat Kohli (India), Curtly Ambrose (West Indies), Sir Richard Hadlee (New Zealand), Sir Garfield Sobers (West Indies), Jacques Kallis (South Africa) and Joel Garner (West Indies).
Mayor of the City of Melton Councillor Lara Carli expressed her happiness over the positive response to these names. “It seems these cricket-themed names are already popular with cricket fans in our community and beyond.
“It’s great to see a positive response to these names, and it’s something I’m sure the developer and surrounding residents can be proud of.”
